Fins were the ‘forgotten’ component of our twin-tip boards. We had the same system for 10 years. We were held back by the screw fixing system in the fins that prevented fin profile innovation. The screws were already as small as possible; and their 4.7mm diameter limited us in terms of both changing the fin profile and its material. Only G10 was strong enough.

Our patented UNIBOX system removes all of the traditional fin profile design constraints. The heel fin goes through the board and is secured on top by a box. The main innovation of this system is that the box does not need to be integrated into the board; rather the board is sandwiched between the fin “RESPONSE” and its box. As a result, our 3mm board thickness and its flex are left untouched.

Free from the usual constraints, we ran a series of tests on various fin profiles. Our first action was to reduce its thickness and test asymmetric profiles. Alex Caizergues used these ultra thin fins in Namibia at the end of 2009 and broke his own World Speed Record. In everyday riding, thin asymmetric profiles decrease the drag and liberate the board for a better ride and early planning.

Once we had chosen the best profile, our second action was to pick the right composite. Manufactured in injected plastic with reinforced fiber, we had the choice of different flex. By adjusting the flex of the composite as well as the profile thickness over its width, we were able to work with the flex. Fin flex is a new and unique aspect of twin tip board design. The boards are smoother both during ride and landings; they also have fewer tendencies to rip off. Edging is more effective and more progressive than ever before.

With the Unibox System and its asymmetric profile, you gain in gliding efficiency and with an early planning. It improves the ride comfort as well thanks to its flex.

Mounting: The fins “RESPONSE” are color coded on the heel part (red and green) to facilitate their assembly and respect the asymmetrical aspect. The matching color is also present inside the fin holes on the board. As a result, mounting the fins is really easy: red on red, green on green. The box part on top of the board can be mounted in either direction.
